A Luminous Halo

Diary April 3, 1960: Miet's Got a New Trick

"Dear Diary--

I tried to make popcorn balls, but the popcorn just wouldn't pop. My mother said the popcorn must be near 15 years old.

Leslie went to the movies, but I went to Kathy's. But not until she came here for a while. We played records, and Aunt Helen and the boys came.

Miet's got a new trick--a metal can of peanuts. I suspected it was a trick, so I wouldn't take any. I was right. When Kathy unscrewed the top, out pops a 'snake' of amazing length! (Scared her to death!)

I haven't finished all my homework, but I can do it in school.

I balanced my account (last time) and, it balances.--And--Kitchy's been found.

(I got some more money from Mom, too)"
