A Luminous Halo

Poetry: The Logic of the Pot

The logic of the pot

The logic of the pot is not
that it is immortal
that it is shaped of, baked of
clay whose age is the earth’s
(though this be true)
not
that man gave meaning to the mute
stuff of creation—made his own,
mirrored God’s thought
in his pot
and fired it fast.
Though this be accurate too
the logic of the pot
lies in its use, the act
giving complete
expression to the facts’
connection.
