Diary March 30, 1960: I Learn to Tell a Joke Properly
"Dear Diary--
I just finished 'Special Year' (I finished another book I'd already started, then read all of that.) It was terrific.
In cooking we made peanut butter cookies, Mom likes them.
In volleyball I'm getting better, at least the ball goes up now!
I tried the joke about the 'Spiral Staircase' on Mom, and it worked! (I didn't think she was the type). It worked on Leslie, too.
Then I tried Dad. He said he didn't know what the Spiral Staircase was. Then I explained I meant a Spiral Staircase, any one. And it worked!"
