First Snow

Today was the first snow of the year in Springfield, Massachusetts. It was the kind of snow you'd expect in Georgia, not New England. The sun came out and melted all of it in just a few hours.

Many meteorologists are saying we have El Niño to thank for our bizarre warm winter weather. I'm using the word "thank" quite consciously. Living in this big, drafty house, more afraid of the gas company than of the IRS and the FBI, I can't help but feel I've been given a personal reprieve from the heavens when the weather's this mild.
