What I Had for Lunch Today: Leftover Moussaka, Caesar Salad, Strawberry Parfait
Moussaka is one of those dishes you make as a casserole; not so good if you're going to have to eat the whole thing yourself and it's bland. Sometime between yesterday afternoon and today, another resident of my household ate a portion or two, which made me happy. Ali and Lindsay cook their own food most of the time, and Donna's fasting for Ramadan. In the evening she frequently goes out for Iftar--the fast-breaking evening meal, which is typically communal--and consequently eats very little at home. I reheated about half of what remained, and jazzed it up with my favorite condiment. Moussaka tastes better, as does practically everything, with Lan Chi Szechuan Sauce with Garlic. I also made a small Caesar salad--romaine, bottled dressing which had somehow found its way into my refrigerator (never again!), freshly-grated Parmesan, and homemade croutons. For dessert, a strawberry parfait (Greek yogurt flavored with sugar and rosewater, layered with sliced strawberries flavored with sugar and a splash of Chambord). Moussaka: three stars, thanks to the Lan Chi. Salad: three stars, thanks to the homemade croutons. Parfait: four stars. Parfait!
