What I Had for Lunch Today: Krakus Plate
Tonight was the Krakus Festival at the Basketball Hall of Fame, an annual dinner and celebration for the Polish Center of Discovery and Learning in Chicopee, Massachusetts. I went over early to help and didn't bother to eat before I left, so I guess I can call the meal I ate there "lunch."
All the food for the festival was catered by Max's Tavern next door. Max's is well known for its delicious food; what's less well known is that the chef is Polish. He was pretty excited about catering this event, and warned his staff that the kitchen was going to smell like cabbage for a couple of days.
Most of the offerings were meat--beef tenderloin, kielbasa, salmon, hunter's stew. I had rice, kapusta, Polish salad (salatka), pierogi, a couple of rolls, and coffee and pastries. Pierogi were all cheese...meh. The salatka (a potato-and-egg salad with a mayonnaise-based dressing; can have a variety of additional ingredients but usually celery or celery root, parsnip, apple, carrot, and pickles) and Max's delicious ciabatta rolls were the highlights of the meal for me.
