A Luminous Halo

Christmas Pancakes

One thing all of my kids can do is cook. Once in a while they'll treat me to a meal, which is one of the nicest things you can do for anybody. And since they know their way around a kitchen, it'll taste good, too.

Amir treated his mother to a breakfast of pancakes this morning. He made the syrup as well. For some reason, both of my boys prefer this recipe, which I made up, even to real maple syrup. It's sugar and just a couple of spoons of water brought to a boil in a heavy pan. Then some cinnamon and plenty of heavy cream swirled in. Then some vanilla once it's off the heat.

Homemade pancakes, homemade syrup, a caffè e latte made with my little Bialetti....who needs Santa Claus?
