A Luminous Halo

What I Had for Lunch Today: Avocado Sandwich

Avocado sandwiches are what I sometimes ate at Fire and Water, a very hip little underground café I used to frequent a few years ago. It was run by Star Drooker, vegan, artist, musician, all around interesting guy, who now operates Café Evolution in Florence. Star moved from NYC to Noho to start F&W, "open till wicked late," and it was amazing while it lasted. Weird and wonderful music, open mic poetry, art on the walls by his pretty famous brother, Eric Drooker, a shrine to his dead infant son, Jesse, a red Tonka truck pushed around on the floor for donations during musical happenings, and plenty of cheap vegan food.

This sandwich is bread, mayonnaise, slices of avocado and of tomato, sprigs of cilantro, fake bacon bits, sea salt and freshly ground pepper.
