Diary January 21, 1960: I Make a Decision

I remember this trip...the hairdresser's name was Ann Bania. She was the wife of one of my mother's Polish cousins. She gave me what was known as the "bubble cut"--short and curly all around. I had such a moon face as a child and teenager that I appeared chubby, from the neck up at least. The bubble cut wonderfully accentuated that roundness! A few years later, in Paris, to my great despair, even Carita, my swanky salon, would give me basically that same cut, and as a final indignity spritz me with a girlish lily-of-the-vally scent. Inside I was Audrey Hepburn, not Sandra Dee! How come nobody else could see it?
