Big Surprise

This just in from Springfield's The Republican: "Massachusetts Inspector General Gregory W. Sullivan today urged the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority to postpone plans to eliminate tolls on the Turnpike west of Route 128, saying he is alarmed over undisclosed information about the plan....Rep. Joseph F. Wagner, D-Chicopee, co-chairman of the Transportation Committee, last week asked the authority to delay the vote. The Transportation Finance Commission, a special panel studying long-term transportation needs, also recommends not ending the tolls, citing the need for the revenues. The five-member turnpike authority is to hold a closed meeting at 10 a.m. tomorrow to consider reports on the financial and legal implications of the plan from Citicorp and the Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo in Boston."

Sorry, Republican administration. Your ploy to soften voters didn't work, and Kerry Healey lost anyway. With the election one week past, it's time to withdraw all the last-ditch promises. And raise prices at the pump as well, probably.
