A Luminous Halo

Zuzu Befriends Some Peeps

I should've unwrapped the peeps as soon as I laid in my stock for 2006, so they'd have had a chance to get a little stale. As it was, they might not have gotten opened in time for Easter at all had I not been trolling for yet another income-tax-avoidance strategy this afternoon. I finally decided I had to drop everything and craft a peeps centerpiece for the holiday.

I dumped them on the kitchen table, and of course the dog and the ferret wanted to get in on the action. Nobody in the household actually eats peeps but me, and I'm not very squeamish, so I let the animals nose around them a bit.

All the excess sugar in the packages makes a mess, as anyone knows who likes to play with peeps. Zuzu had no interest in the peeps themselves, only in the sugar. Ferrets like to roll around in anything that has an interesting texture.

After I had made a dramatic centerpiece, I microwaved a couple of peeps for my own amusement, and then dressed one up like an accountant. And now I think I'll settle down and do those taxes.
